Chinese Kangxi Style 19th Century Chinese Vase & Carved Stand

€245.00

An exceptional antique Chinese blue and white gu-form vase, crafted during the Qing dynasty in the 19th century, beautifully emulates the celebrated porcelain of the Kangxi period (1662–1722).

The vase is superbly potted in the elegant, flaring gu shape, a form rooted in archaic bronze prototypes and long admired for its balanced, trumpet-like profile. It is exquisitely hand-decorated in vibrant cobalt underglaze blue, featuring finely detailed pheasants standing gracefully among flowering plants and pierced scholar’s rocks. The composition is lively yet harmonious, with confident brushwork and subtle shading that capture the texture of feathers and foliage with remarkable skill. Pheasants, traditionally symbols of beauty and high rank, are rendered with particular sensitivity and refinement.

The base bears a four-character Kangxi mark in underglaze blue. Although the mark pays tribute to the earlier imperial reign, the vase dates to the 19th century, reflecting the Qing dynasty’s continued admiration for and revival of Kangxi-era porcelain styles.

The vase is raised on a finely carved wooden stand, ornamented with the Buddhistic “Everlasting Knot” motif — an auspicious emblem symbolising eternity, unity, and the interconnected nature of life. The stand complements the porcelain beautifully, enhancing both its visual impact and symbolic resonance.
